For several years CRESST has been developing materials for use in our training programmes and for schools to use when teaching conflict resolution skills. We would like to share a selection with you here.
The hand model of the brain
This is an animation (5m47s) aimed at 8 to 15 year olds explaining the three main parts of the brain and how the brain chemistry changes when you are in conflict or under threat. Understanding their different roles can help young people to know what’s happening and stay in control if they find themselves in conflict. Using the hand to illustrate the brain enables you to actively visualise ‘flipping your lid’ and so can be helpful as a prompt. See it on the CRESST YouTube channel here.
Antisocial media: A story of online conflict between friends
A story about conflict between two friends, created when ‘banter’ is misunderstood and leads to offence.
All the way through the story are little snippets of information explaining what happens when you are in conflict, how it affects you and some strategies and solutions to handle conflict well.
