CRESST holds its 14th annual Peer Mediators’ Conference
On Thursday 23rd January 2020 CRESST held its 14th annual Peer Mediators’ Conference.
Around 100 children who have been trained by CRESST as Peer Mediators came together at Sheffield University’s Students’ Union to share activities, games and ideas relating to cooperation and building positive relationships.
After the Lord Mayor Councillor Tony Downing’s opening welcome, they launched into workshops and discussion groups including cooperative games, camp fire conversations and puppet-making. The day finished with Maynard Flipflap, the well-known Sheffield entertainer, as a way of thanking all the children for their voluntary efforts in resolving conflict across the city.
‘“It has helped us to understand conflict can be solved. It makes you feel like a grown up.”
“It’s made it a safer place… if an argument starts it’s more likely to get sorted out quicker. And we’ve got better lessons because they aren’t taken up by teachers trying to sort out what happened at playtimes and dinnertimes”.
