Call for Freelance trainers and artists to deliver conflict resolution education
Conflict resolution for young people by young people
CRESST is looking for innovative and inspiring artists and freelance trainers to bring skills and creativity to our expanding conflict resolution education programmes, enabling young people in schools and beyond to gain and use skills in conflict resolution. This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of good practice in the UK. Our programmes are constantly developing in response to young people’s experiences and needs. Successful applicants will have a good understanding of current issues facing young people in their on- and offline lives and a range of creative skills and techniques in group work.
CRESST is a small Sheffield-based charity that has been working with schools and other organisations for 15 years to adopt integrated and restorative approaches to reducing harm from conflict. Our work is often school-based, and includes training young volunteers as peer mediators (primary) or conflict coaches (secondary), helping other young people develop their speaking and listening skills to resolve break time disputes, friendship fallouts and handle difficult conversations. In secondary schools our work is more varied, as we run specialist targeted group work programmes for those most ‘attracted to conflict’ including on-and offline conflict. We are keen to extend our pool of collaborating artists to help design and deliver relevant creative content. Recent requests are from across the north of England, so freelancers could be based elsewhere (especially Manchester and Leeds) and/or willing to travel.
Freelance Trainers and artists rates Hourly start rate £25/hour plus travel and preparation time. Progression to higher rate based on experience. For example a 6 week programme of 4 hours per week plus preparation will often be around £1,200 plus travel time and expenses. Artists’ rates may be discussed individually. Work is irregular.
Those invited to join the CRESST team will be offered at least 1.5 days of initial training to CRESST’s aims, programmes, resources and ways of working, with dates set for 28/29 January or 12/13 March 2020. Those selected will
- be committed to and have some understanding of non-violent conflict resolution skills
- be experienced in working with young people within the 8 to 18 age range
- be experienced in facilitating lively, fun and engaging sessions to challenge young people
- understand the pressures and challenges young people face in their on- and offline lives
- understand the context of working in schools
- be able to develop and adapt resource materials, produce reports, presentations, and contribute to monitoring and evaluation.
