Youth Resolving Conflict Project

For most young people conflict both on and offline is an inevitable, sometimes exciting, and often painful and destructive part of life. CRESST believes that these young people are capable of learning and practicing skills that enable them to explore and engage positively with conflict and to find their own positive resolutions.

Workshop programmes

CRESST now offers a range of options tailored to meet the needs of students and schools. These are informed by our pilot programme with three secondary schools. They include:

•  A series of four Conflict Resolution lessons written for KS3 that can be used as part of a PSHE curriculum. They help students understand what conflict is, how it affects them personally and physiologically, how conflict escalates, skills and approaches for managing interpersonal conflict and strategies for handling conflict online.
• A workshop series for groups of 15 students nominated by the school. This series can be six or eight sessions long and uses visual arts and graphic design to co-produce a product for wider use in the school.
• Handing online conflict. A series of six workshops using drama and mask-making techniques to explore conflict resolution skills and managing difficult situations online. For a group of up to 15 students.
• Intensive training in conflict coaching for older student volunteers, who then set up a scheme in school to support young students dealing with friendship issues and difficult conversations
• Facilitated student-led enquiries into young people’s experiences of conflict. This could involve producing a short film and could form part of their Extended Project Qualification.

Working in partnership

CRESST has a range of freelance trainers who can offer bring different approaches to working with our core material on conflict resolution skills and strategies. We are always excited to work in partnership with schools to develop new programmes.
