Overview
CRESST is dedicated to helping children and young people learn conflict resolution skills that can be used in their schools and communities. Working in Sheffield and the surrounding areas CRESST has been delivering Conflict Resolution Education (CRE) programmes over the past 4 years. To date 37 schools have participated in the programme with over 2000 children benefiting from the training.
There are now over 300 trained mediators in Sheffield volunteering to help solve problems on a daily basis.
We also work with other child and youth centred organisations such as children’s homes, youth centres, youth forums and inclusion units.
Our training takes various formats;
- We work directly with children and young people introducing them to the concepts of conflict resolution and win-win scenarios, and how to implement and practice these techniques in their day to day lives.
- We train groups of children and young people to be volunteer peer mediators.
- We can also offer a variety of training packages for school staff.
- We train teachers in the best practice to support their peer mediation scheme.
- We run workshops in conflict resolution and its application in educational settings.
- We work with all staff members from learning mentors, teachers through to lunchtime supervisors.
- We also offer training and workshops for parents.
We work directly with each organisation to ensure that the advice and support they receive is tailored to their needs. We can help to identify creative approaches to introducing conflict resolution in your organisation; in one secondary school we worked with the staff to identify the need for a girls group as a starting point for a whole school approach and have supported the setting up and co-ordination of this group.
Having identified the need for conflict resolution education in your organisation we can help you to promote the benefits and evaluate the results. We can participate in presentations to senior management, governors, trustees, parents and children and young people. These presentations can be formal or informal, and can take the form of attendance at meetings or devising assemblies, whatever feels appropriate for your organisation.
